How much does a school website cost in India?

Why school website quotes differ so much, what a cheap quote usually leaves out, which costs return every year, and what to demand in writing.

An institute owner reviewing quotes
Direct answer

School website prices in India vary widely because the word website covers very different products. A brochure site, a site built to be found in search, and a site wired into enquiry follow up are three different purchases. Compare written quotes on scope, ownership, recurring items and who maintains it after launch.

Why two quotes for the same school can be far apart

The quotes differ because the vendors are not selling the same thing. One is quoting a template with your photos dropped in. Another is quoting structure, written content, admission pages for each programme, technical work so search engines and AI assistants can read the site cleanly, and a form that actually reaches your counsellor. A third may be quoting a design exercise with no content plan at all. None of them will say this out loud, because scope is where margin hides. Before you compare rupees, force the quotes onto the same page of scope. Ask each vendor to list what they are building screen by screen and what they are not building.

What is usually missing from a cheap quote

Cheap quotes are cheap for findable reasons. Content writing is often excluded, so you end up writing every page yourself while the project stalls. Programme and admission pages get collapsed into one page. Photos, admission forms and fee enquiry flows are treated as extras. Search and AI readability work is not there at all, which means the site exists but nothing points to it. Mobile behaviour is tested loosely. Speed is ignored. Most importantly, nothing connects the enquiry to a person who follows up, so leads land in an inbox nobody owns. Ask directly which of these are excluded, and get the answer in the quote, not on a call.

The costs that appear after launch

The build price is not the price. Domain and hosting renew. SSL renews. If the site is on a paid platform or page builder, that licence renews. Content changes during admission season, new board results, new faculty, new fee structures and new circulars all need someone to make them. Security patches and plugin updates are ongoing on most stacks. Search and AI visibility work is continuous by nature, because competitors keep publishing. Ask every vendor to separate one time build from yearly recurring, in writing, and to state what a typical change request costs and how fast it is done during admission season.

What to demand in writing before you pay

Ask for the scope screen by screen. Ask who owns the domain, the hosting account, the code and the content after payment, and insist the answer is you. Ask for the timeline with a launch date and what happens if it slips. Ask what happens to enquiries submitted on the site, where they go and who is accountable for response time. Ask for the yearly recurring list. Ask for two schools they have built for and speak to those principals yourself. Get three written quotes and compare them on these dimensions rather than on the total alone. A quote that cannot answer these questions is a quote you cannot act on.

Where GetPreferred sits

GetPreferred is not the cheapest option, and we do not pretend otherwise. We build the institute website as part of a wider system, search and AI visibility work alongside enquiry and WhatsApp management, because a site nobody finds and enquiries nobody answers cost more than they save. If a template site with no follow up is what you want, a local freelancer will do it for less. Our published plans are on the pricing page, so you can see the scope before you speak to anyone. The useful next step is finding out where your current site and your current visibility actually stand, then deciding what to buy.

What to do with this

Take it to any vendor, including one who is not us

Every answer here is written so you can hold a quote up against it. If a vendor cannot answer these questions in writing, that is your answer.

Related questions

Is a template school website good enough?

It can be, if your only goal is a presentable address to print on a hoarding. It is not enough if you want parents searching online to find you and enquiries to reach a counsellor reliably.

Should I pay one time or yearly?

Expect both. The build is one time. Domain, hosting, licences, content changes and visibility work recur. Any vendor who shows only a one time figure is hiding the second half of the cost.

Who should own the domain and hosting?

You should, in the institute's own account. If the vendor holds them, changing vendors becomes a negotiation instead of a decision. Ask for the credentials on handover.

How many quotes should I get?

Get three written ones and force them onto the same scope. Compare on inclusions, ownership, recurring costs and after launch response, then look at the total.
