The Canada market
Canada has no federal education ministry. Each province and territory runs its own system, sets its own curriculum, and regulates or inspects independent schools on its own terms, which is why a school in British Columbia and one in Ontario answer to different rules. Independent day and boarding schools compete with strong publicly funded systems, and many belong to associations such as Canadian Accredited Independent Schools. The International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement are both offered. Language schools serving newcomers and international students, private tutoring companies, and colleges recruiting abroad form a large parallel market shaped by immigration and study permit rules. Demand concentrates around Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Calgary.

A Canadian family choosing a school, or an overseas family choosing a Canadian college, usually starts with a search that includes a province or a city. What comes back tends to be provincial ministry pages, school ranking sites and forums rather than the institutions themselves.
